Pupil Experiences
Pupils are given the opportunity to explore mathematical ideas in a variety of situations and to use the universal language of numbers and symbols, allowing them to communicate their ideas in a concise, unambiguous and rigorous way. The mathematics department will do its upmost to ensure that every child will benefit from a variety of learning techniques within the classroom.
Assessment Methods
Assessment is on-going throughout each session and takes
the form of end of unit assessments, informal questioning during lessons and
homework. Pupils are thoroughly involved in the assessment process and take the
lead on this through the use of self and peer assessment. Pupils are encouraged to self-evaluate
their own performance on a daily basis and assessment grids are completed after
formal assessments to inform pupil, parents and teachers of the next steps
required. The variety of assessment methods used will allow pupils to develop
their confidence to critically analyse, contribute to discussions and talk
confidently about their learning process.
Supported Study
The department offers supported study every lunch and
after school on a Wednesday 1540-1640. This is an excellent time to get help on
topics that are causing difficulty, and I would highly recommend that as we
approach assessments that all pupils use this service regularly.
Skills Development
The Mathematics department have devised fully
differentiated courses that promote both active learning and traditional
teaching methods in order to maximise pupils understanding of the course.
Pupils take part in stimulating real-life situations, whilst developing a range
of interpersonal, operational and reasoning skills. We as a department
encourage pupils to develop investigative, problem solving, analytical, critical
thinking and modelling skills. A variety of assessment is for learning
techniques are in use along with a variety of activities that will enhance a
sense of citizenship, and therefore developing skills for life and skills for
work.
ICT
Edmodo: The department regularly share revision materials
on www.edmodo.com. This is in the form of a
study plan which all pupils are expected to engage in.
Pupils will find lots of different activities and course work to revise on the following websites: www.mathsrevision.com and www.mymaths.co.uk
